Abstract

In the primary state of study in our research focused on examining the mental health impact experienced by individuals with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and evaluating the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice related to PCOS through a prospective observational study. We collected a total of 100 case records, predominantly from individuals aged between 12 and 45 years who were susceptible to PCOS. Among them, comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, anxiety, and depression were frequently observed. In this study, we developed and validated a questionnaire to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding PCOS, which proved to be highly effective for use in outpatient settings. Previous studies have also explored KAP regarding PCOS, and our study aimed to contribute to this area of research. We found that providing education resulted in a 10% improvement in knowledge, a 5% improvement in attitude, and a 3% improvement in practice regarding PCOS. We emphasize that inadequate knowledge, attitude, and practice among PCOS patients may contribute to the recurrence of the condition. This can be addressed through patient education initiatives aimed at improving understanding of the disease. Additionally, our findings reveal that a significant proportion of PCOS patients experience mild anxiety (53%) and moderate depression (45%).
